The glamorous side of 'make do and mend'.

I can't let go of anything. I have had this wonderful vintage Cheongsam hanging in my wardrobe for years. All the hem is ripped and it wouldn't be worth it to mend it. So, I salvaged the silk and turned them into petals and then let my noggin fill in the gaps. A bag of vintage leather, a box of Swarovski crystal jet, a cup of tea and Pride and Prejudice on the computer, (Matthew Macfadyen as Mr Darcy, of course!) and voila! This is what happened.
More and more I am recycling fabrics for my costume pieces. Making do with what I have and being inspired like crazy by the possibilities of a ripped vintage dress and scrap upholstery. I don't want to buy anything new. As much as I love eco fashion, not all sustainable wear has to be made from hemp and bicycle tires.
